If you have been online during the last week you may have heard about a new game called Valheim. We did as well and we were scratching our heads thinking “what is this game?”.

Valheim is a brand new survival game that has absolutely taken the gaming world by storm, quickly becoming one of the top games on Steam. At the time of writing this, Valheim is currently the 3rd most played game right now on Steam, even beating out Destiny 2 which begins its new season today.

It is a survival game, very much like games such as Rust, Conan Exiles, The Forest etc, so if you’re not a fan then it might not be for you. But, it just might because this game seems to have something about it that I’ve yet to put my finger on. The game is currently in early access and only released earlier this month, so expect a lot of changes over the coming months and possibly years, which should expand the game greatly.

Valheim can be played either solo, or with up to 10 players in a group. As with any survival game, after a brief introduction you’re thrust into this brand new world with nothing more than the clothes on your back and it is up to you to survive.

The world is centred around Viking mythology, which honestly fits a survival game incredibly well. Players are tasked with exploring, crafting, fighting, looting, building, and most importantly surviving.

The game starts you in the stone ages with the ability to craft very basic weapons and items, everything is a bit barebones. As you progress through the game you encounter bosses, which upon defeating take you to the next age, such as the bronze age, iron age etc, with each offering advancements in technology.

Valheim in incredibly in depth, allowing players to do virtually whatever they want. Players can build houses, create food, craft boats to exploring the sea, grow their own crops and start a farm, go adventuring to hunt for a giant troll, there is just so much to do in the game.

A quick article like this could never do a survival game justice, so be on the lookout for a review in the future. But for now, here is some more information from the official Valheim website.
