February Nintendo Direct Predictions

Nintendo Direct 2-17-21

After over five hundred days since the last full length Nintendo Direct, fans have been ecstatic at this morning’s recent announcement by the Nintendo America Twitter. A new Nintendo Direct has been announced for February 17th, 2021 at 2PM Pacific Time, and its slated to be 50 minutes long, comparable to some of the longest Nintendo Directs out there. Fans everywhere are taking to the Internet to talk about their predictions, and I’m no exception. These are some of our Nintendo Direct predictions!

Smash Character

Its been nearly two months to the day since Sephiroth was made available to true gamers who could beat his boss event in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Seeing as Nintendo of America’s tweet mentions Smash, its hard to think there isn’t an upcoming character reveal. After Sephiroth, though, I really feel like its hard to predict what in the world Nintendo and Smash Director Masahiro Sakurai are thinking.

Characters I’d love to see are Isaac from Golden Sun, Dante from Devil May Cry, or perhaps another Xenoblade Chronicles representative, but tomorrow could bring anything.

Breath of the Wild 2

Breath of the Wild 2 has been hyped since its initial reveal in 2019, and we’ve been shown next to nothing about the game. I’d be incredibly surprised if we don’t get another trailer with gameplay and even a potential release date. It looks like they’re trying to take a different direction for the story, so I’m certainly interested in where they go with the long awaited sequel.

New Pokemon Snap

While we saw this in the Pokemon Direct not too long ago, we know New Pokemon Snap is coming out relatively soon. Getting another trailer and some final info before the game releases seems like a safe prediction for the Direct. Maybe an announcement of post release free or paid DLC adding new tracks and Pokemon? Who knows?

Also worthy of mention is a potential Gen 4 remake for the Pokemon franchise. Rumors have been going rampant for months, and it would seem to be around the time they would be announced looking at past remakes. I wouldn’t hold my breath on this one, but it would be a welcome surprise!

New Reveals?

With the event being 50 minutes in length, people figure there has to be SOME kind of new announcement hidden away. We know so little of what first party titles are coming to Switch in the next year that Pokemon Snap, Smash Ultimate, and BotW 2 can’t be the entire runtime.

While it was revealed years ago, if we see any Bayonetta 3 footage, it would be the first time we saw more than the title art for the game. Nintendo has such a wide catalog of franchises under their belt that near anything could be in the works. A Xenoblade Chronicles X port is one of the few Wii U titles not yet brought to the Switch, so perhaps that could happen.

Anything else is… hard to predict. Nintendo has always done a good job at surprising their fans… for better or worse, so let’s hope Nintendo gives us a lot to be glad about tomorrow! I wonder if any of these Nintendo Direct predictions will be proven true.
