Asian Games 2022 medal events include LoL, Dota 2, and more
The Olympic Council of Asia announced the slate of esports titles set to debut esports as an official medal event for the 2022 Asian Games.
What are the Asian Games?
The Asian Games is the single largest competitive sporting event in the world, with over 11,000 athletes from forty-five countries participating in the 2018 iteration of the games.
As well the games draw in viewers from all over Asia, with tens of millions tuning in for the 2018 games.
The 2022 iteration of the games are scheduled for the 10th to the 25th of September. The games are set to take place in Hangzhou, the capital of China’s Zhejiang province.
On Wednesday, the Olympic Council of Asia announced in a press statement that the 2022 games will feature popular esports titles such as League of Legends and Dota 2 as medal events for the first time in the event’s history.
Esports titles in 2022 Asian Games
The titles are:
- Arena of Valor
- Dota 2
- Dream Three Kingdoms 2
- FIFA
- HearthStone
- League of Legends
- PUBG Mobile
- Street Fighter V

Director-General of the OCA, Mr. Hussain Al-Musallam explained the OCA’s excitement for the inclusion of esports during a video conference at the Chefs de Mission Seminar.
“I believe we have ticked all the right boxes ensuring a high level of competition which promises great viewing for enthusiasts and casuals alike”.
Esports was officially introduced into the Asian Games sports program in December of 2020 at the OCA General Assembly in Oman.
Although esports initially was featured at the 2018 Asian Games, only six titles were included as demonstration events, which do not count towards a country’s total medal count.

As esports continues to grow, Asia has become a stand-out region for the growth and popularity of the discipline. And with the introduction of esports into the Asian Games, esports should only continue to grow over time in Asia.
