The 2022 League Of Legends World Championship has a new location for its semifinals! Previously it was announced that the host city would be Toronto, Canada, but that has now changed.

Where is the 2022 League of Legends World Championship going?

Due to the rules for getting into Canada because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the host city has been changed to Atlanta, Georga, and will be held in the State Farm Arena, the same arena that the Atlanta Hawks play in. The stadium is located in the heart of downtown Atlanta.

Some previous events that have been held in the Arena include all playoff games that the Atlanta Hawks have played in, and concerts from TWICE, Stray Kids, Harry Styles, The Eagles, and Twenty-One Pilots.

This change means that the four host cities for the 2022 League of Legends World Championship will be Mexico City, New York City, Atlanta, and San Francisco.

When talking about the move, Naz Aletaha, the Global Head of LoL Esports, had this to say, “This news is no doubt disappointing to our fans and partners in Canada, and we want to sincerely thank Toronto, Scotiabank Arena, and our community for their understanding. We look forward to bringing a major LoL Esports event there in the future.”

Todd Harris, the Atlanta Esports Alliance Chair said, “We are honored that Atlanta now has this incredible opportunity to host the world’s biggest esports event. We look forward to working closely with Riot Games, our public and private partners, and our local community to create a remarkable experience for all involved.”

The 2022 League Of Legends World Championship is the first time that a major LoL esports event has been held in North America since 2016. Previously the host cities were Chicago, San Francisco, New York City, and Los Angeles.

This announcement, however, is a blow to Canadian League of Legends fans that were planning to make the trip to Toronto. The last time a major League of Legends esports event was held in Canada was in 2016 when the LCS Finals were held there.

Since the 2022 League of Legends World Championship will no longer be held in Canada this year, the wait may be long for another Canadian event. The rotation for Worlds locations is between the four major regions, those being China, South Korea, North America, and Europe. The next time that it is time for North America to hold a major event, it could be as late as 2026.

If you are a Canadian fan looking for a bright spot in the situation, there are two host cities that are closer to the Canadian border for any fans that want to experience the pinnacle live. For those on the East Coast, New York City is very close to Toronto, so a trip there may be possible.

For fans on the West Coast, the trip is a little bit longer, but right down the coast, the 2022 League of Legends World Championship Finals are being held in San Francisco. If fans are able to get their hands on tickets for then, incorporating it into a vacation may be a possibility.
