FlyQuest Toucouille: “I’ve definitely learned a lot”

FlyQuest Midlaner Toucouille

After a rocky Super Week this past weekend, FlyQuest’s midlaner, Loïc “Toucouille” Dubois, sat down and talked about his time in the LFL, his experience so far in North America, how FlyQuest has managed to exceed expectations and more.

It was Super Week this past weekend, and instead of playing three games on three separate days, you had two games on one day and then the third one on Sunday, what was it like having a game delayed, and then having to play two games back to back?

It felt bad the first day because we came, we prepared, we were waiting for the game and then it didn’t happen, which was a bit unlucky. The next day I didn’t really mind playing two games in a row because it’s good training for best of threes or best of fives.

You’ve been in North America, I believe since the Lock In Tournament, I was wondering what your experience has been playing in North America so far?

It has been two months, I came at the end of December. I think it’s pretty great, it’s been pretty great to live in America and play with all the LCS teams. I’ve definitely learned a lot, playing at a higher level, than in the ERLs previously. It feels good to improve, playing the best teams that I can play, and try with my team to become the best too.

You just mentioned the ERLs, you played in the LFL, and as people have seen from Rekkles playing, French fans are very passionate and very vocal on social media, I was wondering if playing for such a vocal fan base helped you prepare for playing in a major region where there’s a lot of passionate fans as well?

It’s been a long time now since I played in France. I played for two years in the LFL, so I know about the community. I am used to playing with a lot of the community watching it, and fans being really passionate as well as you said. Definitely, it wasn’t a big change for me playing in the LCS. Now it’s another community, but it’s still the same. I’m used to playing with a crowd, and I don’t think it affects me that much.

Before the split, not a lot of the media, myself included, had FlyQuest highly rated. I had you in the middle of the pack. You guys have clearly exceeded expectations, how have you or the team been able to perform the way that you have?

I mean, personally, I joined the LCS with the mindset that I’m not going to care about standings, or people rating me the worst midlaner in the league, I’m not going to think about all of that. I’m just going to think about the gameplay, and how we’re going to work as a team. I don’t want to start a game against Bjergsen thinking, ‘Oh my god, he’s too good,’ or with mental blocks, I just want to play the game. I’ll watch how this guy lanes, and what he does. I’m not judging myself or comparing myself to anyone, I’m just focused on improving, focused on doing my best. That’s the big thing, for me, I think because I’m clearly not expected to be one of the best midlaner in the league.

You just talked about not wanting to compare yourself to anyone, coming into the split, I’m sure that you had goals for yourself, how are you doing compared to them?

Honestly, where I am right now feels really, really good. I know that I’m a rookie in the big leagues, so I’m allowed to make mistakes, I’m allowed to int. People expect me to be one of the worst midlaners, so I came into the season thinking that I have nothing to lose, I only wanted to make people happy, and make FlyQuest fans happy, so I’m definitely in a great spot.

Now that we are halfway through the Spring Split, what are your thoughts going into the second half of the Spring Split?

I think we had a pretty bad Super Week, and we want to fix all of those mistakes and become great as a team again, so I think that is the big challenge. We definitely want to make playoffs, play well as a team, and see how far we can go.

Do you have anything to say to your fans or fans of FlyQuest?

First, thank you for supporting us, I hope that you enjoyed our first three weeks. We had an unlucky Super Week. Just trust us that we’re going to keep working, taking it slow, and keep improving. I think we’ll get there, and become a contender for the top of LCS.
