San Francisco Shock release several fan favorite players

San Francisco Shock win 2019 OWL Grand Finals

Popular Overwatch team, The San Francisco Shock, has announced the departure of six players from their roster.

Seonchang “ANS” Lee, Brice “FDGoD” Monscavoir, Myeong-hwan “smurf” Yoo, Charlie “nero” Zwarg, Joo-seok “Twilight” Lee, Gil-seong “Glister” Lim, and Sean Taiyo “ta1yo” Henderson will not be on the San Francisco Shock’s roster for the 2022 season.

Many in the community recognized that for the Shock needed roster changes to return their championship-winning form from 2019 and 2020. However, nobody expected changes this drastic.

The Shock had a disappointing 2021 season. Although they ended the regular season with a 12-4 record, the Shock failed to qualify for a single stage playoff and the team ended up finishing in fourth during the 2021 playoffs.

Although the releases have made a large percentage of the Shock’s fanbase upset, the move signals an organization that doesn’t want to settle as a title contender, the Shock have made it clear they wish to be the title winner.

This may be the perfect time for the San Francisco Shock to rebuild their roster. The 2022 Overwatch League season will be played on Overwatch 2, a format that promises to bring wide-sweeping changes to the way that Overwatch is played.

As well, the 2022 free agent and prospect markets appear to be plentiful with hot commodities. Several possibly generational talents including Dong-hyun “Proper” Kim, Christian “Ojee” Han, and Isaiah “Hydron” Rodriguez will be over the age of 18 and eligible to play during the 2022 season.

As for the next moves for the players who are leaving the Shock, not much is known. So far ANS, smurf, nero, Glister, and Twilight have announced their intentions to enter free agency to look for new teams leaving ta1yo and FDGoD’s fate up in the air.

San Francisco Shock’s current roster is:

  • Matthew “Super” Delisi
  • Hyo-bin “ChoiHyoBin” Choi
  • Minki “Viol2t” Park

October 9th marked the day that all players on expiring contracts officially end their commitment to their current teams and become free agents. On the 10th free agency will officially open allowing free agents to sign new contracts for the 2022 season and beyond.
