What changes do pros want for League of Legends Champions Queue?

Champions queue, the version of solo queue made specifically for professional League of Legends players from North America and South America, opened its second split on March 14th, 2022.

Its purpose is to be a higher quality version of solo queue, eliminating trolls and toxicity, and it is invite-only. That being said, there are some changes that LCS pros suggested to make it a better experience.

After the LCS games on Saturday, March 12th, during the post-game scrums, players made the following suggestions when the question of improvements to the champions queue was made.

Change the draft/ban system – Ablazeolive/Palafox

This change was suggested due to the current format for champions queue. Right now the format per game is using the tournament draft system, where the picks and bans don’t all happen at once.

The suggested change is for the games to take a pick and ban system more similar to what is present for everyone else. They suggested this as a way to spice up the drafts, getting rid of the stagnant meta that is present.

Change the Match Making Rank – Abbedagge/Josedeodo

Another suggestion was to change the MMR (Match Making Rank), or the balancing of lobbies. From time to time, games are already decided in the lobby, just due to the players on one side compared to the other.

On one team, there could be five LCS professionals while on the other it could be one LCS pro and four amateur players.

This gives the team with five LCS professionals an advantage when it comes to the game due to their mechanics and knowledge of the game. The change would make it so the games are more competitive instead of one-sided blowouts.

Force the use of communication – FakeGod

This recommendation is more for the player attitudes rather than the mechanics behind the scenes of champions queue. When players get into a game, they are put into a discord call which is used for communication during the game.

The thing is that some players don’t stay in the call, they join for picks and bans and leave right afterward. This puts the team at a disadvantage due to them not being able to make any calls that would help the team, while the other team has full communication. With the change to make communication a necessity, it does have the possibility to increase toxicity.

With those suggestions being made, hopefully, they can be put into action by the committee in charge of champions queue itself. To keep up on the leaderboard for champions queue, make sure to check the leaderboard here.
