League of Legends: 2023 LCS Spring Split day thirteen recap

Fans during the 2023 LCS Spring Split day thirteen

The 2023 LCS Spring Split day thirteen was a day full of chaotic games, one-sided games, and a few upsets along the way. Some of the matchups today were Evil Geniuses taking on FlyQuest, Counter Logic Gaming versus 100 Thieves, and Team Liquid Honda going against TSM.

Two of the big games today featured teams that have gone into slumps that were not expected before the season started. Can 100 Thieves and Team Liquid Honda bounce back against their opponents today, or will their slumps continue?

Alongside the teams that are in slumps right now, there is one team that is doing surprisingly well that is in a position that nobody expected before the season started, and that is Golden Guardians. Despite having their winning streak ended yesterday, they still started the day in fourth place, much higher than anyone expected. Can they get back to their winning ways today against the ninth-place Immortals Progressive team during the 2023 LCS Spring Split day thirteen, or did their loss yesterday shake them too much?

Golden Guardians, the team that is always ranked in the bottom half of the league before every split, is surprising everyone with how they are playing right now. On paper, the team looked like a middle-of-the-pack team, with Licorice not performing as he had on Cloud9 in the past, a new midlaner, and an aging bottom lane duo. The only bright spot that people expected was River in the jungle.

Despite all the doubts and questions, and a poor start to the split, the last couple of weeks for the team have placed them in fourth place after the 2023 LCS Spring Split day thirteen. Today was not the best game for the team, with plenty of mistakes made that the team will have to iron out before playoffs hit in a couple of weeks, but if they do, they will be a team to watch out for.

Of course, they still have to make it to the playoffs, which are still a couple of weeks away. The team still has to focus on what’s going on right in front of them before they can book their tickets to London for MSI. Today they were lucky, with Immortals Progressive throwing for them multiple times, but if they can get everything in order and show up against the top teams, the sky is the limit for the Golden Guardians.

Now that the 2023 LCS Spring Split day thirteen is over, it’s time to look toward next week, and the storylines going into it. Can 100 Thieves put out the fires on their burning ship, or has it just gotten too out of hand for the team to bounce back this split? Can Team Liquid Honda fix their middle to late game, or will we have to wait until the Summer Split before anything else changes?

Games to look out for next week include Golden Guardians versus 100 Thieves and FlyQuest against Team Liquid Honda on Thursday. On Friday, Counter Logic Gaming takes on Evil Geniuses and TSM takes on Golden Guardians. For the complete schedule and to watch all the games live, make sure to check lolesports.com.
