League of Legends: 2023 LCS Spring Playoffs round two recap

The Golden Guardians on-stage after beating FlyQuest during the 2023 LCS Spring Playoffs round two

With the 2023 LCS Spring Playoffs round two arriving, the journey to Raleigh, North Carolina is coming closer to an end. Today, between FlyQuest and Cloud9, the first team to lock their spot into both MSI and the 2023 LCS Spring Finals will be decided.

Will we see the FlyQuest that dominated 100 Thieves, or will we see the same team that faltered in the final weeks of the Spring Split, leading to them losing their first place to Cloud9? For Cloud9, how far have they come since their series against Counter Logic Gaming? Will they make the same mistakes Blaber, the jungler for Cloud9, said would prevent them from beating FlyQuest?

For the second match of the week, it’s Evil Geniuses taking on Golden Guardians. While neither team will lock a spot in the finals or at MSI if they win this series, a win during the 2023 LCS Spring Playoffs round two will keep their playoff dreams, and dreams of international competition, alive. Can the underdog Golden Guardians show up to play, or will they falter just short of their first appearance at a finals weekend?

Now that the dust had all settled after the 2023 LCS Spring Playoffs round two, it’s time for Evil Geniuses to head home and get ready for the summer split. Despite signing FBI and Ssumday from 100 Thieves at the beginning of the split, and having three players considered at the top in their respective positions, they will not be making the trip to North Carolina to compete for their second appearance at MSI this year.

Despite having a strong start to the split, and beating 100 Thieves soundly during the first round of the playoffs, they fell apart against the Golden Guardians during the 2023 LCS Spring Playoffs round two. One of the biggest problems that the team faced against the Golden Guardians, as well as during the last couple of weeks of the regular season, was in the middle lane, where Jojopyun seemingly fell apart and did not play up to his usual standards.

He made mistakes during the lane phase, during team fights, and in side lanes. He never seemingly regained his level of play from the first couple of weeks of the split, leading to him getting caught out and never making the same level of impact that the mid-lane for Golden Guardians was able to make.

For the team, there could be lots of changes made, but in all likelihood, it will be the same roster going into the Summer Split, with maybe some more competition brought in for the mid-lane to prevent Jojopyun from getting complacent and letting his level of play fall off of a cliff.

This weekend, there will be two series before the LCS Spring season is over. On Saturday, FlyQuest and Golden Guardians will face off, where the winner will go to MSI and the LCS Spring Finals, and the loser will go home. Who will lift the trophy at the end of the week? It’s time to find out.
