Defending Champions Look Good

Coming into Worlds, both Damwon Gaming and FunPlus Phoenix were the favorites to win the whole thing, and their first game was against each other.

Damwon, the previous champions, came out of the gate on fire. Debuting Yuumi being picked first in the support role, something that became meta in the following games.

The first seed from Korea looked unstoppable, completely dominating FunPlus Phoenix from the beginning till the end. If it continues the way it has started today, Damwon looks like they will take the whole competition.

Does NA Have Hope?

Finishing the day, the region of North America finished the day with one win and two losses. The one win came off the back of Team Liquid, who had a back and forth game against the first seed from Europe, Mad Lions.

The other two North American teams, 100 Thieves and Cloud9 did show some fight against their competition, but they did fall in the end. If Team Liquid can continue winning their games, they can make it out of Groups, and further into the tournament.

Day seven of the 2021 World Championship Group Stage continues tomorrow at 4 AM PST/7 AM EST/ 12 PM BST, with the first game being T1 taking on Edward Gaming, and can be watched at LoLEsports.com.
