League of Legends 2021 World Championship day five recap
The last day for the Play-In stage for the League of Legends 2021 World Championship has come to a close with four teams playing for their chance to play in the Group Stage. Who will make it out, and who will be heading home after today?
Series One: Beyond Gaming versus Hanwha Life Esports
Before the series even started, Beyond Gaming was put at a disadvantage. Their mid laner, Maoan, got into trouble for betting on games and giving his friend’s insider information about the champions that he was going to play. Due to that, he was suspended and Beyond Gaming had to put their backup top laner PK instead.
As expected, with a player with a shallow champion pool in the mid lane, and having to go against one of the best mid laners in the world in Chovy, Beyond Gaming could only put up a fight in games, but fell to Hanwha Life Esports.
Beyond Gaming didn’t manage to take a game off of Hanwha, ending the best of five series with three wins for Hanwha Life Esports and no wins for Beyond Gaming.
Series Two: Cloud9 versus PEACE
The second series of the day saw the North American team Cloud9 take on the representative from the LCO, PEACE. Though PEACE did put up fights early in game one, the series was also not a close affair, with Cloud9 taking three games over the Australian team with PEACE not winning once.
Despite not taking a game off of Cloud9 once, PEACE as a team deserves credit. Coming into the tournament, the team had to substitute in Vizicsacsi for their intended player Apii.
Despite the change in the roster on the fly, the team made it to the final best of five before the Group Stage. Despite not making it to the Group Stage, the team should be proud of what they were able to do in such a short time.
