Could MrBeast join the LCS?

MrBeast

Mr Beast is one of the largest YouTubers of all time, having recently hit 100 million subscribers, making his channel the 7th most subscribed channel in the world and the second largest independent content creator only behind Pewdiepie.

When it comes to YouTube, there isn’t much else for Mr Beast to do, and now it looks like he is looking for ventures outside of the platform.

After much hinting and talking about owning an LCS team, could MrBeast join the LCS? The answer is yes, and it may be happening sooner than you think.

Who is MrBeast?

Mr.Beast, or Jimmy Donaldson, is one of the fastest growing YouTubers on the platform, just recently topping 100 million subscribers. His videos primarily include one to four people doing some kind of challenge for an insane amount of money or high-value reward.

Outside of his videos, he recently had a big show match, but it included a game that all should be familiar with, League of Legends. In July, MrBeast and popular streamer Ninja had a big show match in Las Vegas with teams of various streamers playing the popular game.

However, this interest in League of Legends is not out of the blue. He’s commented about playing the game and, more importantly, owning an LCS team in podcasts and streams as early as last year. However, the possibility of him owning a team could become a reality soon.

Where did these rumors come from?

Per IAMJERM on Twitter, there have been rumors of MrBeast purchasing an LCS team, either part ownership of a current team or owning a new team in the league. With Karmine Korp purchasing part ownership of the LEC spot that Rogue has, and with rumors of two LCS teams open to selling their spots, this is a big possibility.

The only thing that may get in the way of MrBeast owning an LCS team is the price he would have to pay to get into the league. Dignitas, one of the teams rumored to be in the market for selling their spot, paid a reported $20 million dollars for their spot, obtaining it from Clutch Gaming.

On top of the entry fee, there are the costs of player salaries, coaching staff, team facilities, and more. The upside to those hefty costs is the partnership opportunities for MrBeast due to his brand alone. The costs of running the team could be minimal depending on who partners with the hypothetical team in the future.

MrBeast joining the LCS would also be good for the league from the broadcast perspective. In terms of all broadcasts, the LCS has fallen from its heights as one of the most watched leagues to tenth place among all broadcasts in the world.

Not only have leagues like the LCK in South Korea and the LPL in China passed them, but development leagues from Europe and leagues from South America have passed the LCS in terms of peak and average viewers. If a big-name personality like MrBeast were to join the LCS, viewer interest would be increased and maybe the step forward that the LCS needs.

This could also be a boost to the North American player base as well. In all four major regions, North America, Europe, China, and South Korea, NA has the smallest player base. Joining may increase interest in the game and draw in new players who may not have otherwise given the game a chance.

This is all speculation, however. There has been no concrete news that MrBeast would join the LCS at all in the near future, or at all altogether. Fans of the LCS and League of Legends should hope for this outcome to become a reality since the LCS was the original professional League of Legends league, and it would be a shame to see it die out slowly.
