What happened to TSM and Counter Logic Gaming?

After starting the 2023 LCS Spring Split with a 2-0 record, both TSM and Counter Logic Gaming have seemingly fallen off of a cliff, the most glaring would be Counter Logic Gaming giving Golden Guardians their first win of the season. Coming into the 2023 LCS Spring Split day five, one question was on fans minds, what happened to these teams?

After such strong starts where the teams looked good, why do they look like they are playing at a level lower than what they showed during the first week of the 2023 LCS Spring Split? In the case of TSM, it’s looking like a case of the team not being on the same page when it comes to major objectives such as dragon fights and baron fights. Players are going in while other players want to run away or finish the objective. Another reason is that they have gotten sloppy in lane, outside of the top lane where Solo has been playing at the same level that he was during the first week of play.

Surprisingly, the same can be said for Counter Logic Gaming, who came into this year with the same roster that they had last year in an effort to help the players grow. During the first week of the split, it did seem that they were actually growing, with good macro and decisiveness when it came to play calls. These last two weeks, however, their play has been full of mistakes and poor planning, but as is the case with TSM, the top lane has been perfectly fine.

If these teams want to get back to the level that they showed during the first week of competitive play, then they will have to iron out these problems, or else they will slide further down the standings with each game that they play.
