The 2022 LCS Spring Playoffs are almost over, and the race to Houston has been decided. Team Liquid and 100 Thieves already punched their tickets by playing in the winner’s bracket, but the real competition was between Cloud9 and Evil Geniuses.

Could the young, North American talent on Evil Geniuses take on the experience of Cloud9, or will their inexperience and youth prove to be their downfall?

Cloud9 Get Sent Home

Cloud9’s LCS roster on-stage during the 2022 LCS Spring Playoffs.

At the beginning of the year, Cloud9 was one of the favorites to win the entire split, along with Team Liquid. Throughout the year, Summit, their top laner, rose to be the presumptive MVP, Blabber was playing well in the jungle and had a stand-out bottom lane.

Even though they fired their head coach, LS, after the third week of the split, the team still did well, finishing in the second seed. They didn’t have a great start in playoffs, getting swept by 100 Thieves, but had a better showing against Golden Guardians. Had their problems been fixed?

When the Semifinals came around, they were against Evil Geniuses, and their problems were shown off again. With everything on the line, they couldn’t get it done. Evil Geniuses dominated them, ending the series in a clean sweep.

Changes are likely to come for this roster, with potentially the majority of the roster being turned over, which Cloud9 has done before. Any changes that the team makes are going to be interesting in the future.

The 2022 LCS Spring Playoffs come to a close next week. On Saturday, Team Liquid and Evil Geniuses will face off in a best of five series to see who will play against 100 Thieves in the Grand Finals, where the winner will go to MSI.
