2022 League of Legends Worlds Play-ins day two recap

Evil Geniuses on-stage during the 2022 Worlds play-ins day two

Last Updated on: 1st October 2022, 09:42 am

After a rocky, pause-filled day, the 2022 Worlds play-ins day two has come to an end. After the first day, the hierarchy of each group seemed to already be in place. Teams from the major regions, such as MAD Lions, Fnatic, and DRX, seemed to be at the top, while the wildcard teams in their groups would be at the bottom of the standings beneath them.

On day two, will that still be the same case? Will Europe drop a single game, or will they stay undefeated across two teams? Will Royal Never Give Up bounce back after their defeat against DRX, and will DRX continue their win streak? It will all be decided during the second day of the 2022 League of Legends play-ins stage.

MAD Lions look shaky

MAD Lions, one of the two teams that are representing Europe in the play-ins stage, are looking shaky against the top teams right now. Before the tournament, they were made fun of because their trip to the tournament included no best-of-five victories, meaning they literally failed their way to the tournament.

Yesterday, they did have some softball opponents to get themselves warmed up in Isurus and the DenizBank Istanbul Wildcats, and they beat both teams easily. Today during the Worlds play-ins day two, they found themselves up against Royal Never Give Up, one of the favorites to make it out of the group and the 2022 MSI champions.

Against the top competition, they looked very mortal. With mistakes made all over the place, not getting any leads at any time, and not looking solid during team fights, it never seemed like they ever had a chance.

As it sits right now, they are not a lock to make it out of the group, as it is the first seed that makes it out for sure, and second through fourth have to play in three to four best-of-five series to make it to the group stage.

If the team wants to make it out, they need to figure out what happened today and fix it quickly. The last time the organization was at Worlds in 2020, they were eliminated in the play-in stage, not making it to the group stage. For this team that has the LEC MVP, not making it to the group stage will be seen as a failure for the team.
