2022 League of Legends Worlds Groups day seven recap

Fans react to a play during Worlds groups day seven

Last Updated on: 16th October 2022, 08:23 am

Worlds groups day seven has come, and it’s almost the end of the Worlds Group stage. Today, after Groups A and B locked in their final seeding, it was time for Group C to finish up and decide who the two teams would be sent to the quarterfinals.

To start the day, Rogue was undefeated, with three wins and zero losses. Can they shoulder the hopes and dreams of all western fans and possibly be the only western team to make it out of groups? North America only has 100 Thieves left in Group D, and every other European team has been eliminated. It’s all up to Rogue.

The only obstacles in their way are DRX and Top Esports. Up to this point, DRX has overperformed what was expected of them and performed much better than what they showed domestically. Top Esports, on the other hand, seems to be the Chinese team that will fall into groups. Who out of the two of them can stop Rogue today?

At the end of Worlds groups day seven, despite losing three games, Rogue has made it to the quarterfinals at Worlds. They did not make it in the way that they wanted, however. They looked good in their first game against GAM Esports, but everything fell apart after that.

They looked sloppy against the other teams in their group outside of GAM Esports and could not pick up a win. They were in luck, however, since Top Esports only managed to win games after they were mathematically eliminated from contention.

Once Top Esports was eliminated, they looked like the LPL team that almost won their domestic league and one of the favorites to win the entire tournament. They looked dominant against Rogue and DRX, smashing lane and winning team fights as if it was second nature to them.

Nobody knows why they couldn’t do that earlier in the tournament. The organization seems to be cursed when it comes to Worlds. The last time they were here, in 2020, they also petered out and failed to make it out of the Group stage despite having one of the strongest rosters on paper.

DRX, on the other hand, performed as well as everyone expected them to. They only dropped one game on the day, but they bounced back and beat Rogue in their tiebreaker to decide who would be the first seed and who would be the second seed.

Since they finished first, they will dodge any first seed from the other groups that could potentially prevent their trip to Atlanta. Conversely, Rogue has to worry about which first seed they will have to face. If they are lucky, they will face off against a team that matches their playstyle well. If they are not lucky, they will have to face off against JDG Intel Esports Club or T1.

Worlds Groups day seven is over, what’s next?

With Worlds Groups day seven out of the way, and every group is locked in stone, that only leaves Group D to finish their group. Royal Never Give Up is at the top of the group with an undefeated record, followed by Gen.G, CTBC Flying Oysters, and lastly, 100 Thieves.

100 Thieves hold North America’s last hopes as a host at the tournament. However, the journey to make it out of the group stage will not be easy. They have to win every single game that they play, and even then, they can still be eliminated from contention. Hopefully, they have prepared and are ready to fight for their place in the Quarterfinals.
