Before this weekend, the trade deadline for the LCS came and went, and Golden Guardians along with Dignitas decided to make a move. On the Golden Guardians’ side, they got River for their jungle, causing Pridestalker, their old jungler to be sent back to Academy.

For Dignitas, after trading away River to Golden Guardians, they brought up Hoon in the top lane, and Exyu in the jungle, both from their academy team. Exyu has gotten some LCS time when River was still waiting for his Visa to be approved so he has been seen by LCS viewers before, but this was Hoon’s first time on stage.

Going against 100 Thieves and Counter Logic Gaming was not the best way to be welcomed into the LCS though, with both teams falling in the upper half of the league, standings-wise. As expected, the fresh faces did struggle against the tough competition, but it’s also a good time for them to grow and develop into LCS-ready players.

For Golden Guardians, the addition of River seemed to make an immediate impact. He was not fully clearing his jungle like the previous jungler, Pridestalker, was. Instead, he was making dives work and being proactive around the map to help his team get leads.

Unfortunately, it didn’t show up in the score line for the team, as they lost both games this week, but with a little growth, they should be able to win more games and improve how they tackle their late-game shot calling. Until that problem is fixed, or they steamroll teams to the point where that problem can’t be raised, the team will still run into the same problems that they faced with their old roster.

LCS Standings after week six

  1. Evil Geniuses (11-2)
  2. 100 Thieves (10-3)

  8. Golden Guardians (4-9) tied with TSM
