Batman/Fortnite Zero Point #4 finally feels like a DC Comic

When we last saw Batman, the last interaction he had with another person was a very intense, respectful fight between him and Snake Eyes of G.I. Joe fame. This time around we are immediately in the middle of a confrontation between Batman and long-time foe Deathstroke.

However, a common occurrence on the island is the inability to speak, until something changes that is.

Last time we saw Batman not only did he have a confrontation with Snake Eyes but he also managed to do the one thing he knew he needed to: escape the loop. However, Snake Eyes was also able to speak to Batman, something that was pointed out immediately that Batman himself couldn’t do.

This issue gets behind the apparent reasoning for that and other happenings on the island that have peaked Batman’s interest.

As Batman/Fortnite Zero Point #4 progresses we start to learn more clues about the next stage of what Batman is simultaneously experiencing, learning, and trying to escape. We also learn that along with Batman, many characters are also as aware as he is and some places are not as they seem.

We have been curious about some things since the first island as players and when those unanswered questions remained unanswered on a new island, the mystery only deepened with Chapter 2.

Batman & Co. and the Zero Point aftermath

Even with no memory of who they actually are, island inhabitants retain who they are, abilities and all. In this issue we see, or at least are told, of specific uses certain characters known as outfits to players possess. In this issues as well, we see something interesting in the form of self-awareness in a way.

Characters are calling or referencing to themselves as the names given to them in the Fortnite game itself. While that sounds pretty standard for a video game or story in general, Fortnite is obviously different. While we all know Fortnite characters by a certain name, the Batman/Fortnite Zero Point comics give us a much different insight.

Upon reviewing Batman/Fortnite Zero Point #3 I stated that the issue reminded me of Cabin In The Woods and also raising my suspicions that the island itself is a part of some sort of Cabin In The Woods type of experiment. While this issue explores that idea a little more, it’s also deeper than that and absolutely worth experiencing for yourself.

Overall, from doing this review of Batman/Fortnite Zero Point #4 I realized that this, if not issue #3, is my favorite issue so far. Although the dialogue from last issue was abandoned this time around, it was a bit of foreshadowing into this issue. Once again I’m shocked at how the comic is turning out and I’m excited for more.
