Leaks have finally surfaced for MHA 363 and we finally have answers regarding the last major twist in this set of final battles. Kohei Horikoshi decided to keep the entire MHA fandom on the edge of its collective seat when he left Bakugo’s fate in the air, leaving the last chapter on a shot of a bloodied Bakugo with a devastating heart injury. Here’s an obligatory spoiler warning, but I will be writing about everything we know about MHA 363, beginning with the title of the chapter: The ones who attack and the ones who defend.

MHA 363 opens right off the ends of the last chapter, Monoma looking on in disbelief at Bakugo’s state as the boy had desired perfect wins. However, Best Jeanist then confirms to everyone that Bakugo no longer has a pulse. Mirio is left frustrated as he reflects on his goal to protect everyone until Deku could make it to the scene.

Of course, as he is want to do, the mix of Tomura and All for One taunts the heroes by stating the boy is dead for good, and that it was Aizawa’s fault in putting too much faith in his student and sitting in the sidelines himself. He then asks who should be the next present for Deku upon the boy’s arrival, selecting Miruko as the villain grasps her. Despite her situation, Miruko bites the man’s fingers as she states that she missed her chance to kill this body back in the lab, but that she’s anything but depressed.

MHA 363 shifts back to Kamino with Dabi up and kicking. He reveals that, in an all-or-nothing gamble, he was able to copy Shoto’s technique, allowing the villain to survive. Now, the tide of battle in Kamino is completely reversed with Shoto’s allies injured and few options left for the UA student but to run. Shoto reflects on the fight, making a grave error in assuming Dabi only had raw strength. In fact, the villain had completely made his Quirk his own through polishing it over the years and had mastered control of his flames.

Dabi shouts, “Skeptic!” causing a voice to erupt from a speaker on the nearby Nomu’s back and it is shown that the villains were even more prepared than expected. Skeptic has been working from afar and keeping tabs on the heroes locations through satellite, has shut down communications between a number of heroes including Deku and Mandalay, and even managed to rout all of the escape routes within UA. Even as families hope for their children and the heroes to win, All for One’s spies can be seen holding phones and keeping in touch.

To close off MHA 363, the scene returns to All for One and the battered heroes in a two page spread. The ultimate villain announces that heroes got the drop on them in the last war, but the tables have finally turned so that villains are those on the offensive. Even more odd, the chapter ends showing a seemingly younger and healthier All for One.

I have to admit, I really thought that we were slowly reaching the end of the final battle in My Hero Academia, but it seems we have at least one more big reversal to go as the villains have such a leg up. Additionally, while the chapter seems to have confirmed Bakugo is about as dead as one can be, my gut feeling in shounen really has me believing that SOMETHING will happen to bring him back. Assuming the character’s journey really has come to an end though, I think the ending is a good one. I particularly like that they don’t just directly tell the reader how far Bakugo has come, but allows the moment to simply be.

Part of me wants to say we’re surely in for a less gut wrenching chapter up next but I genuinely cannot tell anymore. MHA 363 continues to prove we are simply on Horikoshi’s wild ride.
