Is Mineta Bi? New My Hero Academia Manga Reveal

As some here may know, I’ve been writing about the MHA chapters that come out weekly on leak nights, and I’m surprised to see the Internet’s huge takeaway from the newest chapter is that of a seemingly random question. Is Mineta bi? Turns out this is the question of the day on Twitter and Tumblr, so let’s see what’s the deal here.

So this is the manga page which seems to have drawn the collective attention of social media.

The wording here seems to be what everyone is talking about. “I fell for you… when you were scared and sweating buckets and quaking in your boots!” A pretty good line if I’d say so myself, especially considering the context of the fight going on between Deku and his classmates.

The use of the term “fell for you” is really interesting here, in that it is, as far as I can find, a localization liberty taken by VIZ Media, the company responsible for the translation of MHA. From the fan made scans I saw the other night, usually those which may even read a bit more dry due to exact translation, used differing wording.

This was roughly the info I had upon reading the chapter, a line along the lines of One for All not being all that special but Deku’s heroic tendencies and ability to fight no matter his reservations or fears being what made him special to Mineta.

Personally, I’d peg this one on VIZ Media, and say that Mineta probably isn’t actually bisexual for Deku. Far be it from me to bury the gays, and by all means if Horikoshi wishes to confirm such as fact, I’d certainly change the info here. Considering Mineta’s… questionable characterization so far though, which is to say 90% hitting on women against their wishes and 10% doing something maybe sort of cool, it feels like an odd direction to bring the character.

So is Mineta bi? Probably not, but I suppose confirmation on the subject may come our way if there really is that much discussion.
